Brother Bagman is Kansas City's current representative for original, feel-good, groove-driven soul rock. This latest full length release,"RISE ABOVE", it's second in four years, is the revelation of a band that clearly played and traveled many miles over the past several years. Hitting you in the gut is the gritty and deep down rythym section of drummer Cole Harvey and bassist Cliff Moore recently returning from a European tour with blues great Michael Burks. The head swayin' groove that was apparent in their first recordings has grown another grin with age and experience, loosening and tightening in just the right places. Strollin' and struttin' on top of the groove is the southern rock soul of Landon Leist's smooth, growling voice. His heavy, rich electric guitar playing combines to lock the audience into a place of understanding and appreciation. The songs keep the listener close and involved and the tight vocal harmonies of Cole Harvey help to fill the arrangements perfectly. "RISE ABOVE" is all the more special as it features the fingers of grammy award nominee Johnny Neel, most recognized for his work with The Allman Brothers Band, Lonnie Mack, and Government Mule among many others.
Kansas City quartet Brother Bagman is determined to brew up an eclectic rock and roll stew for the masses. The group’s sound has developed over the years from a mix of chunky funk, southern-fried rock and soulful vocals. On every stage they perform, the message gets through. Brother Bagman comes to play and they want people to get down.
Originally formed in 2002 with drummer Cole Harvey and guitarist Victor Kerr, Brother Bagman added bass player Cliff Moore in early 2006 and guitarist Landon Leist in late 2006. With the current line up in place, new songs and a revitalized spirit have propelled the band to the next level. The group strives for their own distinct sound with a deep pocket feel, drawing upon a wide range of rhythmic influences including funk, rock, reggae, blues, Latin and jazz. With that foundation, the band’s melodic goal is always to compliment and support the rhythmic feel of the tune.
Brother Bagman has been playing regionally throughout the Midwest. The band released their first album, “notorius b.a.g.” in 2003 and just released their new disc, “extended play” in March of 2007.
